Are you aware that there are over 3, 50,000 dog bite victims annually in the US? This means that almost 1,000 people are being attacked every day. The situation just gets worse with each passing year. In accordance with the latest statistics, there were 34 fatal dog attacks in 2010. In 2011, the figure increased to 52! What will happen in 2012? Well, if the US people start to undertake apt dog owner education, the dog bite cases can actually decrease.
The editor of Animal People, Merritt Clifton has listed out the dangerous dog breeds with special reference to US and Canadian press accounts between 1982 2011. These include
• Pit bulls
• Rottweilers
• Wolf hybrids
Clifton further pointed out that over 77% of the dog attacks cause bodily harm. In this context, it was also reported that 68% of the attacks lead to death. And what has come as a shock is that children at the age group between 5 to 9 years are continuously becoming the dog bite victims. Here, the rate of attack is as high as 73%. When it comes to the adults, the percentage is increased to 81%.

Such figures are indeed shocking. Even if we can’t put a strict control over the dog bites, some measures should be taken to at least reduce the attacks. You should catch hold of a good dog owner education at the earliest. Moreover, CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) released a report on dog bites which stated that around 4.5 million US people are attacked each year.
